Covid-19, The Margarita Edition

Covid-19, Midlife Margaritas Edition

I know you read my blog for the laughs and rants, but honestly, I got nothing but Virus going on. It’s all anyone can talk about. My entire Twitter, Facebook, Insta, even Pinterest feeds are all about THE virus of the Century. Covid-19 how I HATE you. If you haven’t been paying attention (because you were literally just born) we are all obsessed with the pandemic. And lets add insult to injury today because it’s also the dreaded (for me) POLLEN SEASON. So pretty much hell.

We are not quarantined yet, but it’s coming. Word on the street here in Raleigh, NC is that we will be ordered to stay at home sometime soon. We have already shut down schools, restaurants and bars. Anywhere people gather. Grocery stores are still open for now. I’m working from home and my husband is an essential employee where he works so he goes in as usual. Until next week. They made some crazy decision where he will start working split shifts. So half the staff will work one week and half will be off a week. So…. He will be home with me every other week. Great. This is going to test a lot of marriages.

People are suffering, dying, ignoring, drinking, binge watching TV and eating snacks. It’s all over the world. (In case you are reading this from another planet) So my anxiety is up so high right now that I can’t sleep at night. Same for lots of folks I am sure. I worry. Worry about my kids who live elsewhere, my parents and 99 year old grandmother, friends, neighbors, first responders and health care workers. Even the president. No one wants to be in this mess. No one. But here we are.

So, for the sake of my sanity, we are going to list some words and phrases I have grown to hate lately:

New Normal, Toilet Paper, Quarantine, Chinese Virus, Bats, Social Distancing, Face Masks, Hoax and anything political.

News Media is dramatic and fear mongering. Why can’t they just shut up. Just let our Governors speak each day. Give us the facts and what we can do to help. That’s it. Nothing more. Speaking of media, turn off the TVs. Or watch mindless TV. If you can, get out and help. make cookies or something for neighbors/elderly. Kids? Get crafty. Use Pinterest. Make phone calls to people or face-time them.

I’m hoping this doesn’t last too long. Not sure I can handle the anxiety. I’m terrified of running out of Netflix shows. Oh and on that note, Here’s some Netflix Tips:

Don’t watch The Platform or Last Ferry. I want to help you not watch things that are horrible. Lots of violence and weirdness with underlying political tones.

Do watch: Valhalla Murders (subtitles but so so good!). A Ghost Story with Ben Affleck, The Gift with Jason Bateman and Horse Girl. This one is a little dark but I felt it was well written. Those should get you through a week or so.

You’re welcome. Sorry for being so ‘Debbie Downer’ today. It was even difficult to just sit down and write today. Our FB page is great though with lots of fun memes and stories. Same with our Instagram and Twitter.

How are you feeling? How are you passing the time? What’s on your mind? Seriously, reach out and tell me because I have a lot of time on my hands right now.

Lastly, we added a book list to my Amazon Storefront. There are lots of great books by awesome authors. Light, fun reading and some are FREE or extremely cheap! So check it out:  https://www.amazon.com/shop/midlifemargaritas?listId=12D19HNJUPZOW

And as always,

Peach Love & Margaritas!

  1. Hate the word social distancing. I do this anyway. Well as much as I can with a 13 and 15 year old and ALL their friends that want to hang. Between hot flashes and pollen season you would think people would stay clear. My big dogs all over me. AND I’m schooling from home to a boy who wants to play video games Whew! Happy Monday

  2. I wish ALL the people who are posting their opinions should just shut the fuck up. Especially Bette Midler. What a POS she turned out to be.
We should only be listening to our governors (mine is Cuomo) and to the President daily when he gives those pep talks. Hate him all you want BUT he’s got a good team working for us, especially Dr. Fauci. Give that guy the Purple Heart or whatever is the greatest medal in the world.
FYI: my brother, a retired doctor, who took all the precautions necessary is now sitting in a hospital, on his death bed, on a ventilator, because he contracted the Coronavirus when he traveled from Florida to New York City to see his cancer doctor. My brother had just been cured from bladder cancer and was going for his follow up visit. If my brother, a renowned eye surgeon, can contract this disease, what makes any of us think we are above the laws? Listen to the advice our politicians and CDC experts are warning us. Stop criticizing. Stop complaining. Stop it with the opinions. No body cares or wants to know.
PS: I’d welcome anyone praying for my brother. His name is Donald. Prayers are the only thing that can help him now. His wife, also a doctor is trying to get that experimental drug to him but its been difficult. Pray that they can get the drug AND that it will work. Thank you.

  3. Thanks for your “take” on this pandemic. Can’t imagine your 99 year-old grandma has seen in all of her years, but my 82 year-old mom says it’s the scariest thing she’s been through. Anxiety is at an all-time high for a lot of people. My usual rose colored glasses are even blurry right now.
Lucky to have you and Midlife Margaritas page for a fun community—it’s great to share some joy in the midst of this. Proud to be part of your team!

  4. Thank you for the Netflix watch list. I’m eating too many chips and watching HGTV reruns. Help.
PS a reduced work schedule is a good practice run for retirement. Just saying

  5. We are painting lots of river rocks and sending them (virus free) to family and friends. We plan to leave some around the trails near us. A little joy 🙂 Stay well, thank you for writing!

  6. It has truly been surreal hasn’t it. Over here in Colorado the stay at home orders where issued for Denver and Boulder counties. Its coming my way today I just know it. The movie The Gift was crazy! My goof ball husband decided because we didn’t have enough cause for real concern, lets watch the movie Contagion – DON”T DO THAT. LOL.

Thank you for the post and keeping us all entertained. We have to keep laughing through this mess.

    Love and hugs!

  7. Now that Hans is working from home, I am less likely to have the news playing in the background while I work. I am getting used to the sounds of silence, but I have headphones on standby. Doing all we can to keep this at bay and sure hope to dodge this one. I am in the higher risk category, but I am not isolating from one a week grocery runs, just going early in the morning.

  8. So I live near Chicago and we have been on lockdown since Saturday. It isn’t as horrible as the media would like you to think. But it needs to happen because Americans are dumb and think they know the answers.

I have unfollowed so many people during this. Not unfriended, but unfollowed and I suggest everyone do the same. Now my feeds are filled with funny, loving, caring posts. I need to be cared for emotionally now more than ever.

I also only check in with the news once a day and man, that helps SO MUCH.

Stay sane, it is definitely coming your way but you will be good. I promise.

    1. Thanks for weighing in on this. I’m with you on trying to stay positive through this crisis. I probably unfollowed 100 people in the last two weeks. Stay healthy 😎
